My Visual Communications Class (non-art majors): Introduced to Printmaking

I teach visual communications. Its a class for non art majors. I have been pleasantly surprised by their enthusiasm to learn and participate. It has been a fun group. The first half of the semester was all about the elements of design: line, shape, space, texture, value and color. Before we tackled the second half of the semester with the principles of design, we took a “break” and learned printmaking. Since I didn’t have access to a press, the blocks were rubbed with spoons and hand pulled. The class pulled 20 and participated in their first trade print (creating one print for each classmate, resulting in a nice portfolio  of everyone’s print. I provided folders for them to protect their collection of prints. It was a success. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the process.
